Tutbury WI – Outing to Denman – Friday 12th July 2013

30 ladies from Tutbury WI travelled to Denman College (near Oxford) for their special birthday outing.  Denman is the National WI College.  It is a beautiful Georgian House set in splendid grounds.
Denman College offers day and residential courses in ranging from cookery and basket making to tai chi and Scottish Country Dancing not just to WI members but to non-members alike.  We had a fantastic morning watching Peter Lien, head of Denman Cookery School, demonstrate 4 dishes; blow torched sardines with orange, beet and fennel salad; rump of lamb with broad beans, tomatoes, anchovies and marjoram; English pea soup with lemon, ricotta and crispy ham; and almond meringue ‘mess’ with amaretto peaches and basil syrup.

After a wonderful lunch we had a conducted tour of the college and grounds.  We rounded our visit off with a cream tea before heading home.

WI members across the whole country are helping to save Denman College from closure because it is fundamental to our WI Heritage.  Three cheers for Tutbury WI; we did it for Denman!
