On bank holiday Monday 26th May Rolleston on Dove once again hosts its
annual Charity Transport Festival, set in the beautiful heart of the
village on the Croft attracting enthusiasts, classic car owners,
visitors and families alike. The Festival grows year on year from what
started as a one off event five years ago and has a dedicated
following both locally and further afield. The event will again be
raising much needed funds for some very deserving charities and
helping to support the local community.
In addition to the extensive and varied range of classic and vintage
cars from the early 1910s onwards, lorries, buses and bicycles, this
year sees a special focus on motorcycles both classic and modern.
There will be a Hawker Hurricane flypast, (weather permitting) and
lots of static model displays and exhibitions in Rolleston Club and
the marquees.
Children as always are well catered for with a children’s
entertainer, bouncy castle, Punch and Judy, rides, face painting and
much more!
The show will again be held in conjunction with the village wide Grand
Garage Sale Tour, where villagers open their garages to sell no longer
needed items – pick up a bargain! Always immensely popular,
transport to the sales is by classic bus ride starting from outside
the Spread Eagle pub. The bus rides are included with entry to the
event, although we hope that people will be happy to make a small
donation towards the provision of this service.
We are also raising money with our raffle which has been generously
supported by many local businesses. Some fabulous prizes are on offer
including a tour of the Pirelli Stadium, go-karting, a family photo
shoot, food hampers, free MOT, hair design voucher and a tour of the
National Brewery Centre to name a few!
Refreshments are available all day with festival tea and cake in the
Old Grammar School and food in Rolleston Club. The raffle draw will
take place at 4.00pm. Proceedings will be brought to a close by a
procession of the vehicles through the village at 4.30pm.
Last year a fabulous total of over £4000 went to local charities.
