Community Sports Leaders Award Course July 2013

Future sports leaders – aged 16 or over – from across East Staffordshire are being invited to sign up for a popular course designed to help develop their leadership skills.

East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Sports Development Team will be delivering the Sport Leaders UK Level 2 Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA) from Monday 8th to Friday 12th July at Shobnall Leisure Complex.  The course will run between 10.00am – 4.00pm each day and costs £35.00 per person.

The Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership is a practical course which provides candidates with the knowledge and information to lead sports and physical activity sessions in a safe manner.

Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Service Commissioning, said: “ESBC has always tried to give local people the best opportunities to learn new skills and get qualifications that can help them get on in life and one of our most popular events is the Sports Leadership Course.

“The CSLA is a nationally recognised qualification the qualification teaches generic leadership skills including organisation, planning, communication and team work though sport, that helps people develop essential life skills such as organisation, motivation, communication and working with others.

The qualification is practical and candidates learn by doing rather than through written work, and assessment is made upon a candidate’s ability to demonstrate their leadership skills throughout the course”.

The course is continually assessed, and will require you to carry out 10 voluntary coaching hours in the community. To register on to the course all you require is a basic knowledge of sport & physical activity and interest in sports coaching and leadership.
