MRD Woodturning is just me, making
various wooden items that combine
pleasing looks with practical uses
(usually, sometimes they are just
good to look at) and some novelty
items.
I try to ensure that the wood I use is
from sustainable sources and prefer
to recycle old furniture etc., this
creates problems though as it limits
the size of ‘blank’ that can be
produced due to joints inherent in
the manufacture of such items.

|
Friends are very generous and often
offer me bits of trees they are cutting
down or reducing. These I often use
wet which produces some very
interesting shapes as the wood dries.
Unfortunately I cannot always take
what is offered as I only have limited
storage space. |

Anything else?
I also do pyrography, this involves
burning an image onto wood. I have
made house name plates, fridge
magnets, decorated picture/mirror
frames and pictures, some of which
are hand coloured.

|
|
What does it cost?
Smallest mushrooms are £1.50 and
clocks are the most expensive
(so far) at £42 for the largest.
My prices naturally reflect the source
cost. Sometimes the wood is ‘free’ but
exotic woods can be very expensive
and so this cost has to be passed on.

I have sold items to the trade but
prefer direct sales as this again keeps
the prices down.
