Walking for Health East Staffordshire aims to put a spring into the step of Burton people this New Year, by offering 8 different walks throughout the borough.  The Health Walk Scheme is organised in partnership with East Staffordshire Borough Council, The Ramblers and the Walking for Health East Staffordshire Group.

Health Walks enable people to participate in regularly organised walks with trained volunteer walk leaders who will support and motivate them.  The aim of a Health Walk is to encourage people who are currently inactive, need to lose weight, need to become active due to poor health to walk and chat and meet new friends.

At present the weekly Health Walks include:-

Councillor David Leese, Deputy Leader for Partnerships, said: “The Council takes the health and wellbeing of its residents very seriously. We have recently demonstrated this by becoming a British Heart Foundation ‘Heart Town’, being the first local authority in Staffordshire to receive the gold level in the Workplace Health Programme and signing up to the World Health Organisation Zagreb Declaration.

Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Service Commissioning, said: We will all more than likely put on a couple of extra pounds over the Christmas period and walking is just one of the perfect ways to get yourself back on track. Walking is a great form of exercise that is easy, sociable, can improve your health and is free. It’s currently recommended that you should aim to do 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week. If you come along to a health walk, this can go some way towards your goal”.
