Run for Fun

East Staffordshire Borough Council, Staffordshire Athletic Network and Burton Athletic Club are working in partnership to create a running course for beginners.

The group will meet every Tuesday between 7.00 pm – 8.00 pm at Shobnall Leisure Complex. The eight week running course will run from Tuesday 15th October to Tuesday 3rd December 2013. The cost per session is £2.95 per week or £1.50 with a Leisure Pass.

Qualified Leaders in Running Fitness will lead the sessions. The Leaders will support and encourage participants to run to the best of their ability. The sessions are open all over 16 years.

The Running Course will provide the opportunity for runners to progress from being a beginner to become confident runners at the end. At the end of the course, participants will have the opportunity to feed into Burton Athletic Club or Washlands Women Runners. Everyone attending the course for three weeks or more will get a free track pass.

Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Service Commissioning, said: “As part of the Council’s healthy borough initiative, this running programme will provide the opportunity for people who want to get fit to make a start. The running group will provide a supportive and motivating environment for beginners.

“It’s recommended that adults should be physically active for a minimum of 150 minutes a week. Running or walking once a week will count towards this target.”
