Burton Operatic Society fans are in for a double treat with the group’s February production of HMS Pinafore with Trial By Jury.

With HMS Pinafore being a relatively short show ‘Trial by Jury’ will be performed by the crew of HMS Pinafore as on-board entertainment for passengers at the beginning of Act II.

‘Pinafore’ is one of the most popular of Gilbert and Sullivan’s works containing some of Gilbert’s most clever words and wit with some of Sullivan’s most catchy  melodies including ‘We Sail the Ocean Blue’ ‘Over the Bright Blue Sea’ and’ Sorry her Lot’.

The choreography has been a team effort and Steve has really involved the whole cast and encouraged them to bring their own ideas to the dance elements of the production resulting in some very energetic, fun and modern routines.

Director Steven Foster says ‘for those theatregoers who consider themselves traditionalists the music is exactly as Sullivan originally wrote – it’s just some of the dialogue and the costumes which have been changed to bring the production right up to date’.

‘For those who think they are not keen on Gilbert and Sullivan we hope they will give this production a chance – as much comedy as possible has been squeezed out of it – just ask  the company who don’t seem to be able to remember many of their moves at rehearsal because they have been laughing so much. We have some new and young members who have never performed Gilbert and Sullivan before but who are thoroughly enjoying it’.

The Show runs from Tuesday February 18th to Saturday 22nd February with performances at 7.30 and 2.30 on the Saturday at De Ferrers Academy, Harehedge Lane, Burton on Trent. Tickets are from £10 and are available on 01283 541552 or email andrews50544@hotmail.co.uk
