The free Healthier South Derbyshire Day is to take place at the Green Bank Leisure Centre, in Swadlincote, from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, January 19.

A wide range of advice and information stalls, as well as a programme of fun taster sessions suitable for all ages, will be available.
Last year’s offering proved popular, with 500 people and 45 agencies enjoying the unique mix of activities.

South Derbyshire District Council is working with South Derbyshire CVS, Changing Minds and Derbyshire Constabulary to ensure the 2013 experience is bigger and better than ever.

Vicky Smyth, Healthy Lifestyle Officer at the Council, said: “The Healthier South Derbyshire Day always proves a massive draw with residents – and this year promises to be no exception.

“We are working hard in South Derbyshire to offer the local community lots of different ways to keep their mind and body healthy and would like to encourage everyone to come along and get involved.

“It will offer a superb opportunity for families to try something different and interesting in an enjoyable and educational environment.”

The line up for this year’s event certainly ticks all the boxes. Unique? Check. Varied? Check. Fun? Check.

Burton Canoe Club is setting up oar-inspiring taster sessions in the pool (time tbc). Those who don’t want to get wet can still experience the feel of canoeing by having a go on a special paddling machine.

You can turn your hand to a game of table tennis, make a fruit smoothie on our Blenda Venda bike and have a go at learning some circus skills or playing giant games.

Free swimming is on offer (time tbc), giving you an opportunity to check out the recently revamped £200,000 wet side changing rooms at the Civic Way centre.

For visitors wanting to take it easy, they can indulge in food tasting, visit the craft zone or browse one of the wide range of stalls set up by agencies such as the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, the Derbyshire County Stop Smoking Service, Age UK Derby and Derbyshire and Trident Healthy Eating Project.
