Council offers free leisure activities for all Military personnel

Royal British Legion poppy

Over Remembrance weekend East Staffordshire Borough Councils leisure services will be offering a range of free sessions and activities in recognition of the hard work undertaken by members of the armed forces.

The activities available and the facilities hosting them are:

FREE family swimming during all public sessions available on Saturday and Sunday at Uttoxeter and Meadowside Leisure Centres

FREE Badminton and Table Tennis sessions (booking required) and free access to the running track available on Saturday and Sunday between 10:00am and 5:00pm at Shobnall Leisure Complex

These offers are available for all Ministry of Defence (MOD) & Territorial Army personnel and their families (max 2 adults and 2 children).  A valid MOD identification card must be presented to qualify for the offer.

Andy O’Brien, Chief Executive of East Staffordshire Borough Council, said:

“The offers that are being made available at the leisure centres display our commitment to the armed forces community at a high level, as part of the recently signed covenant.

The overarching principle of the Armed Forces Covenant is to ensure that the services community is not disadvantaged as a result of their military service.

The Armed Forces Community Covenant initiative is an effective partnership between local authorities, the charitable and business sectors, and many other groups who have the best interests of the services community at heart. And one which East Staffordshire Borough Council is proud to be involved with”.
