gingerCube Essential Theatre has built a solid reputation for making theatre which wears its heart on its sleeve uses strong stories and spectacular special effects. The Cornish-based company will be part of the Live & Local rural touring spring season for the first time with Freddy Dare and the Ginger Robber, a new kid-becomes-superhero family drama.

It’s on this weekend locally at Tatenhill Village Hall on Thursday 27 February  and Hill Ridware Village Hall on Fri 28 February at 7.30pm.

Meet Fred Andrews, schoolboy and loser. Fred’s dad died a while ago, and his mum is too sad to pay attention to him.  To make it even worse, he’s struggling to make any friends at his new school. But then he discovers a mysterious package at the bottom of a wardrobe, gets an invitation to take part in a dance competition and finds an unexpected visitor in the shed. Will these things give him the answers he needs or will they lead to his ultimate downfall?

“Inspired family show…central performances are superb…what sets this work apart is the brilliant use of film…make sure you take all the family” – West Briton Review

What starts as a film suddenly becomes live action when the actors step off the screen and onto the stage. With influences ranging from television’s Strictly Come Dancing to films The Artist, Scott
Pilgrim and of course Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Cube Essential Theatre transports you on an epic adventure through striking visual and film effects, original music, stylish performances and a strong script that packs an emotional punch.
