East Staffordshire Borough Council is investigating the possibility of a BID (Business Improvement District) for Burton upon Trent. A Business Improvement District allows local businesses to generate funding over a fixed period of time to improve various aspects of the town ranging from infrastructure items such as landscaping, to improved security.

Leader of the Council, Richard Grosvenor said “I’m really pleased that the authority is asking Burton Town Centre Management to initiate the viability of a possible BID in Burton. The council’s involvement and support for this shows our commitment for working with local and national businesses to improve the town – with these businesses leading the way. Business Improve Districts are managed by local business with help from organisations such as our own.”

Paul Howard, Town Centre Manager followed: “A Business Improvement District would represent a real opportunity to make lasting and important changes to the retail environment of Burton Town Centre. I have seen at first hand how effective these schemes are in other towns and cities across the country, and I look forward to working with the council and local businesses in taking this forward.”

Town Centre Management will begin working with local businesses during the summer to ascertain the core aims and objectives for a BID scheme in Burton.
